After poultry slaughterhouse Lammens announced bankruptcy in 2019, an international meat producer bought the site and moved production elsewhere. Since then, the buildings on Wijnendale-Stationsstraat have stood empty. Global Estate Group bought the site in November 2022.

Meanwhile, in cooperation with the municipality and all stakeholders, the process was started to work out a new use for the poultry slaughterhouse, which had a capacity of some 40,000 chickens. In doing so, we are taking into account the green surroundings on the one hand and the neighbouring residential area on the other. Our ambition is to develop a new, sustainable business park where the old poultry slaughterhouse is now located. A small part of the site includes a few houses; here the residential function would be retained.

Together with all parties involved, we first want to develop a well-thought-out master plan for the site. Therefore, the project will in all likelihood take several years. The local residents will certainly be involved in this as well: another participation moment will be organised for this purpose in the course of next year.
